Lesson Plan-Grade 4
Lesson Title: Equivalent fractions
State Standards: MA.3.A.2.4
Use models to represent equivalent fractions,
including fractions greater than 1,
and identify representations of equivalence.
Grade: 4 (FCAT)
Subject: Mathematics
Objectives:
1) Student will identify equivalent fractions
2) Student will give more than 1 equivalent
fractions to the given fraction
Lesson Procedure and
Evaluation:
Recapitulation (10 mins):
Student will be able to recall definition of
fraction with examples, and about numerator & denominator.
Explanation: (40 mins)
Activity 1: Fractions which have the same value, even
though they may look different.
Example: 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent, because they are both "half"
To identify the equivalent fraction for the following fraction,
4/5

b)
2/10 b) 1/5 c) 2/5
d) 2/3
Explain the student how to identify the
equivalent fraction for the given fraction by scaling up or scaling down
Activity 2: Explain the student to write more than
1 equivalent
fraction for the given fraction, for example: 6/5
